Twin trouble ISBN: 9781855493773
Dupasquier, Philippe and Wilson, Jacqueline
Published by Walker, 1998
Connie is not at all pleased when her parents tell her that her mum is expecting twins. She is even less pleased when they announce the twins are to have her room and she is to be given the junk room. When it is cleared and painted, she admits it is nice, but remembering how her friend Karen's baby sister was sick all over her best pullover, she still isn't pleased about the babies. When they arrive, gran and all the relatives are excited. Connie tries to be helpful, but her attempts end in disaster, and everyone is cross with her. Then something magical happens. Nurse Meads appears to check the babies, and she plaits some of Connie's hair like hers, adding two little blue beads. When the beads are twiddled, exciting things happen. First, twin grans appear, wonderful grans, who are willing to give Connie all the sweet things she wants. This makes the real gran realise Connie's need for attention. In turn, mum and dad see twin mums and twin dads too, and Connie is made to understand she is wanted. The blue beads disappear when they are no longer needed, and Connie sees that her baby brother and sister have eyes 'almost as blue as the beads'. Good on Connie's feelings about the disruption in her life. Short novel with Dupasquier's splendid line drawings.
