Wee-Skin-And-Bones is the runt of the pig litter. He has five strong, healthy siblings, but he has 'crinkly-crumply ears, a tiddly-widdly button of a snout and absolutely no tail at all...and a teeny-tiny grunt'. No one will play with him, and his mum can't hear him through all the noise the other piglets make. So he runs away. Deep in the forest, a friendly boar (Old-Scratch-And-Scruff) finds him crying and takes him to his home. In the morning he shows Wee-Skin-And-Bones how to be happy inside out, and when his family arrive, he learns he has been valued and loved all along. Richardson has almost managed to invent his own language, one with lots of dashes, but the story is huge fun, the full-of-detail illustrations a delight, and the point well made that we are all best just as we are.
