Nita Goes to Hospital ISBN: 9781844448098
Barkow, Henriette and Petty, Chris
Published by Mantra Lingua, 2005
When Nita chases her dog and ball out into the street, she is hit by a car. Mum is there, and an ambulance soon comes. We see various procedures such as applying splints to her injured leg, the rush to the hospital in the ambulance, a blood test, having her temperature checked, an x-ray, an overnight stay on the children's ward (with mum), and an explanation of how the leg will be put in a cast under anaesthetic. After a session with the physiotherapist learning to use crutches, Nita goes home with her family. This is a good book for reassurance. Not too much information, but the basics are there, and Petty's plasticine figures illustrate the story with just the right amount of specificity. The copy I saw was dual language Arabic and English, but it is also available in a large number of other dual language versions. Excellent for hospital children's wards.
