The Bear with Sticky Paws and the New Baby ISBN: 9781408300657

Pearl has a new baby brother, and when he begins to use her high chair, she isn't pleased: 'That's my high chair, I'm still very small,' she says. Mum says she's her 'special grown-up girl' but that doesn't please Pearl either. When a small white 'tufty' bear appears on the doorstep and demands to play baby bears, Pearl thinks that is a super idea. But sometime later, after feeding the baby bear great quantities of food, dressing him, pushing him in the swing, and putting up with his hyperactive destruction of games, she comes to the conclusion there are advantages to being grown-up. After all, she can eat properly, dress herself, draw nicely and play proper games. The little bear, having done his job waves a cheerful goodbye. This is great fun. The pictures are full of bounce and verve, and the moral is taught by example rather than by stating the obvious. Super!
