Samuel Scaredosaurus (Dinosaurs Have Feelings, Too) ISBN: 9780750271134
Gordon, Mike and Moses, Brian
Published by Wayland (Publishers) Ltd, 2013
Samuel Scaredosaurus is frightened of many things. He doesn't like the dark and is fearful something might be under his bed. He doesn't like strange noises either, and one day when he got lost in the burger bar, he was afraid he would never find his parents. Bullies scare him (but he's good at hiding), and he really doesn't like trying out new things. His parents are understanding and explain that sometimes they are frightened too. But one day they have some good ideas. Perhaps Samuel could be turned into a 'superhero'. He isn't sure about that, but when dad suggests that the superhero could be his friend instead - 'the Masked Dinosaur' - Samuel thinks that could be a winner. They also suggest that he might make fun of the thing that frightens him or find a word like 'zap' or 'pow' that makes him feel strong. Gradually, Samuel begins to face his fears and become a superhero himself. The zany and wonderfully funny and expressive pictures are a real addition to the story, and two pages of advice for parents and carers show how the book can best be used. There are also some other picture book suggestions. This is a book that is both practical and fun at the same time.
