Benjamin and the Super Spectacles ISBN: 9780007445509
Bright, Rachel
Published by HarperCollinsChildren'sBooks, 2013
This is wonderfully wacky, full of visual humour and fun. Benjamin, a bunny resident of Woollybottom, is a terrific bouncer. He bounces all day, higher and higher, and because he doesn't see very well, he bounces right into his fellow residents - as well as into cake in the local teashop. But Benjamin doesn't want to have to wear glasses and be different from everyone else in Woollybottom, and it is only when he gets well and truly stuck in a hole that he, along with all his friends, goes to have his eyes checked. Their eyes are okay, but Benjamin does indeed need spectacles. They are not a success. He hates the fact that they fall off when he bounces, and furthermore, he looks different from everyone else. Oh dear. His chums decide to take things in hand and 'improve' the glasses. They come up with 'Specs-tacular' which not only stay on when Benjamin bounces, but also have x-ray and night vision, and suddenly, everyone wants glasses. If you can swallow the fact that Benjamin is no longer 'different' from the others, then this will be your cup of tea. If not, then enjoy for the wacky pictures and for the fact that sometimes we have to do things we don't want to do.
