The Asperkid's Not-Your-Average Coloring-Book ISBN: 9781849059589

'This book is the first of its kind. Ever'. That's how this book starts, and it goes on with pages and pages of interesting drawings to colour in, some done by Aspies themselves, and others done by professionals and people interested in helping people with Asperger's do something fun and unusual specifically for them. The pictures are divided into sections: Science, Nature, History, The Art of Math, Myth and Fantasy, and, finally, Celebrating the Awesomeness. Eight Asperkids participate, four from the US, three from Britain, and one from France, and the pictures are wonderfully original and fun to work on. I have one slight problem with one section of the book, History. The claim is made that Jane Austen, Thomas Jefferson, and Henry Ford all had Asperger's. In checking the Internet, I find no proof for these claims. There is certainly lots of discussion about it, but nothing that seems provable, and to make such claims outright is questionable, even though Aspies may find this information supportive. One other criticism is that while there is a good Contents page, the page numbering is erratic and many pages have no numbers at all. Having said all this, kids will enjoy the process of colouring in some amazingly complicated and delightful pictures, and this can only be a good thing.
