Naomi is to stay with her cousin Caroline while her mum is away, and the two girls have a wonderful time together until it comes time for Naomi to sleep in a room on her own. She is terrified of the dark, but can't admit it to Caroline who seems afraid of nothing. Naomi sees monsters and ghosts and sharks, but when Auntie Julie comes to investigate, she admits she is afraid. Auntie Julie says she is brave to admit it. They leave a light on, and next day the two girls draw pictures of monsters that don't look so frightening after all. Quality chalk illustrations add much to the book.
