Fostering - What it is and what it means ISBN: 9781903699508
Shah, Shaila
Published by British Association for Adoption and Fostering (BAAF), 2003
A clear explanation of fostering, what it is, how children come to be fostered, what foster carers do, etc. Children's questions are answered: How will the right family be found? What happens if I'm not happy with the foster family? Will I see my birth family again? What happens in court? Will I have to change schools? What happens if I'm ill? Some technical terms are explained, but the explanations are kept simple. The role of the social worker is described, and information is given as to what to do if problems arise. A list of organisatins at the end provide help and advice. Colour photographs and poetry written by children make the booklet appealing. This is a good basic introduction to fostering, aimed directly at children experiencing it. Available from BAAF Publications, Saffron House, 6-10 Kirby Street, London EC1N 8TS or Tel: 0207421 2604.
